(Puffin, 6 months, with Quincy) |
2/28/00 - Ok, it's been a long time since we updated the tally.... of course since we had Christmas in there, some of the old ratty ones finally bit the dust - Ginny can sew just so much back together. One of the losses though was Giggle Ball.... as well as three or four vinyl/latex that had more holes than stuff left... a feww hoofs that stank, and a couple of rawhides that were giving them close competition. Santa was generous of course... with a new supply of hoofs, a rwahide baseball that could kill if aimed right (long gone...), a vinyl pacifier and also a hotdog that lastes 15 minutes collectively, an assortment of othe nondescript things... but joy oh joy, a BONE! A real, in your dreams like BONE! Smoked, too. Once that was dicsovered all the rest paled.... and there is still some remains of that one wandering around (forget these nice sterilized ones.... give me the good ugly ones). Then, the mail lady started bringing these nifty packages, and Puffin got her very own certified, registered box - within which was Hootie... he started out as a debatable replica of a horned owl (so we're told). He had pink and blue fluff on him, eyes, a beak, horns, and a tail. The tail lasted ten minutes. By thirty five minutes Ginny removed him to the repair place... to whit she sutured both ears, amputated the bottom of the beak, and cleaned up the tail removal. Since then Hootie has been back in circulation.... and oh what a squeaker he has. Of course Hootie is significantly bigger than Puffin's head, so when she dashes around with him she is quite prone to tripping over him... but that all just adds to the mystery of shaking the daylights out of soft squishy, squeaky things that cockapoos understand and we humans only can watch and wonder over.
10/17/99 - For Puffin's toy tally history...
read on. For those familiar with her track record... coming of age
seems to have instilled some sort of restraint on her toy talents. While
still as rambunctious and playful as ever, things seem to be standing up
to the cause a bit better. Stuffed buddies are still routinely eviscerated
of polyfill and repaired by Ginny until there's not enough left to repalr.
Chewsticks are mowed down in record time.... things that can be shaken
still have the bejeepers shook out of them... and we still go Thunk, Jingle
Jingle all the day long. Jingle Ball still reigns supreme for both play and
peace.
Just in case you're interested,
Jaws Junior here has done in the following roster since arriving home
September 26, 1998; eleven of them were in the 72 hours between Christmas
Eve day and two days after (all vinyl unless otherwise indicated - and no,
she doesn't get any more vinyls).
And - this list is offered
in humor. Please don't acquaint it to Cocakpoos being destructive -
Puffin is just an active little dog and a darned good chewer, doing what
puppies do. She's tested the water a little, but has learned that she chews
HER things, and that's what doggy toys are all about.
Lest you think she's deprived of playthings, the surviving manifest includes Rover (repaired), Bone, Doll I, Tugger, Quincy, Soccer ball, BIG ball, Plush ball, Jingle ball, Football (repaired- gone 3/26/99 ) - she likes balls! - Dumbbell (minus the squeaker and plus a hole gone 4/2/99), Binky, Pinky, four big rawhide bones (4/3/99 - down to two), half of Uncle Alan's bag (three weeks after Puffin arrived he presented her with her bag of bones - adorable three inch rawhides, about fifty of them. I told him the bones would out-live the dog. He said, "Wrong". He was right. Gone 3/15/99), four tennis balls, and a Nylabone she won't have a thing to do with. And her spools (current count is eighteen in the bag). Pod might count too - since if she isn't sleeping on him she's shaking the guts out of him.
Latest acquistitions - 1/30/99: hard rubber bone (won't give it a tumble), hard rubber tug loop ( gone 3/14/99 - lost an argument with peanut butter), and BIG bone (rawhide); 2/2/99: Liver Nylabone (could care less), compressed rawhide bone (gone 3/12/99). 2/14/99: Doll II 2/17/99: Tuffball (also known as Thunk!). 2/18/99: Teddy, a bonafide Vermont Chewman fleecy - and just about as big as she is (not that that slows her down). 2/22/99: BIGGER bone (rawhide), a genuine KONG. 3/3/99: Rover II ( 4/11/99 - minus one and half ears and a tail). 3/12/99: NEW Football, squeaky hamburger. 4/1/99: Hickory Smoke-flavored (supposedly) BIG rawhide - don't know what it tastes like but as far as human noses are concerned it stinks; 4/3/99: Latex squeaky dumbbell (4/11/99 - no more squeak), and latex squeaky George (don't ask - 4/11/99 - he's gone). 4/7/99 - solid hard rubber ball, BIG Bone.
5/16/99 - Beer can (new as of 5/5/99), both Rovers, Football 2 and Quincy have all had numerous pitstops on the repair shop over the last two weeks. Rover 1 is really on his last legs; Rover 2 isn't far behind. We gave the Nylabones to Zoe since Puffin won't give them a tumble - Zoe is in her glory. Puffin's washcloth now has about seven holes in it. Bone (fleece) was retired on 5/5/99 and replaced with an identical - which also has already been put back together four times. Hickory Smoked Big Bone was unceremoniously retired - the stink got to us.
5/30/99 - The usual assortment is in for repairs again... and now we add Mr. Carrot, received 5/25 and by 5/28 had already lost a leaf... other than that he's doing well and seems to be a good favorite. He sails through the air particularly well when being ratted for all she's worth and loses the grip....
6/27/99 - There was no putting it off any longer...some of these things just had seen the limit. This week we retired Doll 1, Doll 2, assorted rawhide remnants, Football 2, Mr.Carrot, and a few other things that even Ginny could no longer identify. There is still quite a population in the toy basket however - Puffin is not lacking for diversionary tools.
7/8/99 - Thank goodness for birthdays. The total haul included: Two rawhide shoes (enjoyed greatly, notice past tense); Mr. Carrot 2, Henry the Hedgehog (he grunts); 2 plush jacks (one squeaks, the other doesn't); five-loop booda rope tugger; booda rope and plush monkey (Jigs); 4 inch sterilized bone (recommneded by a Golden Retriever owner, guaranteed almost indestructable - ha!); yellow yapple, dried pig's ear (history); dried stuffed pig's foot (reserved); squeaky plush flying saucer, boda rope and plush giraffe (Jeffrey), and a bag of beef stick chews - two gone.
8/22/99 - Since the last update Puffin's got
a new friend - Giggle Ball. When you toss it it giggles - like a chipmunk.
Tends to catch you of guard - and she knows it. Her birthday pig foot was
greatly enjoyed - took a good long time to work the cheezwiz out of it...
then it got kind of raunchy even for Ginny so that was retired and recently
replaced with an unstuffed one that looks considerably cleaner. For some reason
they really push her buttons... she tosses them all over. They don't feel
too good when you step on them in stocking feet though. Maybe it's passing
into the one-year stage... we haven't had quite as much total destruction
as we did - but then again we're getting smarter about what to give her. Her
birthday Mr. Carrot has lost his tops again... but not to worry since her
cockapoo cousins have replaced it... along with two new bones. The brunt
of destruction has been born on the socks - Ginny had to get new ones so
Puffin got the old ones - she loved shaking the guts out of them and pulling
them to bits... bits they are, and gone.
